LARPD Celebrates 20 years of the RLCC

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Robert Livermore Community Center (RLCC). Since its grand opening on March 26, 2005, the 74,000-square-foot facility has served as a hub of recreation, learning, and connection for the Livermore community. The facility welcomes more than 230,000 visitors annually and offers a wide range of programs and services for residents of all ages.
“RLCC has become exactly what it was meant to be: a central gathering place for the Livermore community,” said Mathew Fuzie, LARPD General Manager. “Twenty years later, it’s clear the center has fulfilled that promise and continues to be a cornerstone of our mission to enhance the quality of life in the community.”

Conceived as part of a collaboration between LARPD, the City of Livermore, and the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD), the project was made possible through Measure L—a $150 million joint bond measure passed by more than 81% of voters in 1999. Of the total bond, $20 million was allocated to LARPD to construct the community center, alongside funding for school improvements and a new public library.
The facility has remained largely unchanged in structure since its opening, but its programming has evolved to reflect the community’s changing needs. RLCC houses senior services, youth camps and sports, fitness classes, rentals, enrichment programs, and more. The Aquatics Center alone draws over 100,000 visits annually. The Cresta Blanca Ballroom has served as a venue for large public and private events, while the gymnasium supports recreational leagues, tournaments, and large-scale community programming.
RLCC has also played an important role during critical moments, including serving as a drive-thru meal distribution site and hosting vaccine clinics during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As it celebrates two decades of service, the Robert Livermore Community Center remains a vital part of Livermore’s civic life. LARPD will continue working with the community to develop its programs and services to meet the area’s changing needs.
LARPD invites community members to share their favorite RLCC memories by submitting photos. Photos can be emailed to info@larpd.org.
