PARK HISTORY
The land used to be a major pasture for the Mission of San Jose and became public in 1835. In 1848, Juan Pablo Bernal bought the land, and by 1852, Martin Mendenhall was known to have lived there. In 1892, the land was sold to August Hagemann, who leased it to H.O. Ruter until 1916, when the Herbert Hagemann family moved in.
The house on the property, built in 1848, is the oldest in Livermore. It was originally constructed to house workers who worked on the range and herded the cattle. In the 1860s to 1870s, a brick yard operated on the slopes of the hill. The park was initially constructed in 1983.
Today, the park offers various recreational opportunities. It has a reservable picnic area, a play structure, and a multi-use sports field available for renting from March to November each year.
