BUILDING HISTORY

The Veterans Memorial building was dedicated in 1931 and is owned by Alameda County. LARPD took over its maintenance and operations in 1977. The county continues to be responsible for major building repairs, while LARPD is accountable for scheduling and maintaining the facility.

The Livermore Veterans Memorial Building, a 5,000-square-foot concrete structure, was built in the mission style. It has a large auditorium 50 feet wide and 75 feet long, which seats up to 250 banquet-style and 400 lecture-style.

It has been used as the headquarters for American Legion Post #47. This local chapter for war veterans was organized in June 1919 and joined the national organization in September its inception; the National American Legion has been an essential lobby for veterans. The veterans group created a memorial wall outside of the facility.
