Tucked away in a pine forest near the south shore of Lake Tahoe, this intimate 25-site family-friendly campground offers spacious campsites in a beautiful setting. Opportunities for bicycling, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, and hiking can be found just minutes away. 

Within the camp, visitors may enjoy a game of volleyball, horseshoes, or ping pong while the kids ride their bikes around the paved campground loop.  Each campsite has a parking place, picnic table, fire pit with grill, “bear-proof” food locker, and a level spot to pitch a tent.   Several sites can accommodate boats, tent trailers, and motor homes, while a few sites can hold vehicles or trailers up to 24 feet in length and 10 feet in height.  In addition, there are sites that can accommodate people with mobility issues.  A brand-new central restroom has flush toilets, hot showers, and is mobility accessible.

LARPD will follow all State, County, and CDC regulations and restrictions to help ensure the health and safety of our staff and campers. Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times. Wild animals are present throughout the campgrounds; guests are required to follow safety rules and instructions from the Ranger staff at all times.

Named for Constance S. Shelly,  Superintendent of the district who worked towards the acquisition of the campground. Shelly, nicknamed "Chili" was with the dirstrict from 1958 until the mid-60's. 

LARPD leased the land from the U.S. Forest Service in the Lake Tahoe Basin in the early 1960s and built the Camp Shelly Campground; it opened circa 1963. In recent years, a volunteer community group has assisted the District in promoting Camp Shelly, successfully boosting the usage/rental of campsites. An ADA-compliant restroom and shower facility was completed in 2019.
