Lifeguard Training Courses

Want to become an LARPD Lifeguard? Follow the steps below!

If you would like to become a LARPD lifeguard, please submit a job application prior to signing up for any training. (Applications can be found here.)

Upon a successful interview, we will train you internally at no additional cost. Contact Alyssa Smith (asmith@larpd.org or 925-373-5749) with any questions regarding possible employment.

Participants for the LARPD lifeguard position would receive certification from StarGuard Elite. If you have a valid American Red Cross Certification, you would still need to complete a StarGuard Elite class to be eligible for employment.  StarGuard Elite Training dates will be presented to candidates after a successful interview, options will be in February, March, and April.

LARPD is switching our lifeguarding licensing to StarGuard Elite in 2025. This Lifeguard Training Course still provides the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Classes will be held at the Robert Livermore Aquatic Center.
