LPD Tip of the Month: Back-to-School Traffic Safety Tips

As kids head back to school, let’s work together to keep Livermore safe:

For Drivers:

  • Slow down. Watch for school zones, crosswalks, and kids biking or walking especially near parks and schools.
  • Stay alert. No texting, no distractions. Expect kids to act unpredictably.
  • Use drop-off zones properly. Pull all the way forward and let kids out on the curb side only.

For Kids & Teens:

  • Use crosswalks and sidewalks. Look both ways and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
  • Keep earbuds out. You need to hear traffic and signals around you.
  • Bike smart. Always wear a helmet and use hand signals.

For Everyone:

  • Plan ahead. Know your route and give yourself extra time during school hours.
  • Be patient. A few extra seconds could prevent a serious accident.

Let’s make this school year a safe one for students, families, and the entire Livermore community!
