LPD Tip of the Month: Help Prevent Vehicle Break-Ins

November 2025 - As we head into the holiday season, the Livermore Police Department is reminding residents to take extra precautions against theft from vehicles. Most break-ins occur when a door is left unlocked — even when a vehicle is parked at home in a driveway or garage.

Crimes of Opportunity

Thieves often walk through neighborhoods, checking for unlocked cars and looking for items in plain sight. A locked, clutter-free vehicle is far less likely to become a target.

Simple Steps to Stay Safe

  • Lock It, Take It, Keep It!
Always lock your doors and take valuables with you.
  • Keep It Tidy
Don’t leave anything visible inside your car. Even small items can attract attention.
  • Hide the Evidence
Stow electronics, cords, and bags out of sight, or bring them indoors.
  • Park Smart
Choose well-lit, visible areas and avoid spots hidden by large vehicles, trees, or fences.

Report Suspicious Activity

  • Break-in in progress: Call 911 immediately.
  • After the fact: Contact Livermore Police non-emergency dispatch at (925) 371-4987.

Provide as much detail as possible, including location, suspect description, and direction of travel.

Together, we can help prevent thefts and keep Livermore safe this holiday season.
