LPD Tip of the Month: Travel Safely, Celebrate Responsibly

As Livermore enjoys the final days of summer, the Livermore Police Department is encouraging the community to make smart choices and prioritize safety—whether you're heading out for a weekend road trip or attending a local celebration.
Plan Ahead for a Safe Ride Home
If your plans include drinking alcohol or using cannabis, make sure you have a safe way to get home. Call a rideshare service, take public transit, or choose a designated sober driver before heading out.
Buckle Up—Every Trip, Every Time
Wearing a seatbelt is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself in a vehicle. It only takes a second and could save your life.
Stay Focused Behind the Wheel
Avoid distractions while driving, such as texting, eating, or multitasking. Taking your eyes off the road for even a few seconds can lead to serious consequences.
Watch Your Speed
Speed limits are in place for a reason. Slowing down increases your reaction time and helps prevent accidents.
Be Aware of Pedestrians and Cyclists
With parks and trails bustling this time of year, be mindful of walkers, joggers, and bicyclists. Share the road and give plenty of space.
Take Breaks on Long Drives
If you're planning a long drive, take time to rest every couple of hours. Drowsy driving is just as dangerous as driving under the influence.
Understand the Risks of Medications
Don’t assume you’re safe to drive just because you’re not drinking. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and cannabis products can all impair your ability to drive. Always read warning labels and follow instructions carefully.
If You See Something, Say Something
If you spot someone who appears to be driving under the influence, call 9-1-1. Taking action could save a life.
