LARPD Continues Grazing Education Series with Guided Hike at Sycamore Grove

LIVERMORE, CA – The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) is hosting the third event in its public education series on the District’s cattle grazing pilot program at Sycamore Grove Park. Community members are invited to join a guided hike on Sunday, October 12 at 9:00 a.m., to see the grazing program in action and learn more about how cattle are helping to care for the land.
The approximately 3.25-mile round-trip hike will take participants into the upper section of Sycamore Grove. Along the way, LARPD staff and grazing experts will share how grazing reduces wildfire fuels, supports healthy grasslands and wildlife habitat, and what the District is doing to minimize trail impacts. Hikers will also pick up practical tips for sharing the trails safely with grazing animals.
“This is our third public education event about the grazing pilot at Sycamore Grove, and we’ve really enjoyed seeing the community come out, ask questions, and learn the purpose behind what we’re doing,” said Jill Kirk, Community Services Manager. “It’s a great chance to see the cattle up close and hear how grazing fits into the bigger picture of maintaining the park.”
The hike is moderate in difficulty, with some uphill and downhill sections, and is best suited for ages 10 and up. Participants should bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and dress in layers. Registration is available at www.larpd.org/events.
