Tip of the Month: Holiday Crime Prevention Tips

The holidays are a busy and exciting time, but they also bring an increase in shopping, deliveries, and, unfortunately, opportunities for theft. A few proactive steps can help keep you, your home, and your gifts safe this season.

While Shopping

  • Stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep your purse or wallet close, and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Never leave purchases visible inside your vehicle—lock them in the trunk or take them with you.
  • Park in well-lit, populated areas whenever possible.

At Home & With Deliveries

  • Track packages so you know when to expect them, and bring them inside quickly.
  • If you won’t be home, ask a neighbor to pick up your packages or schedule deliveries for a time when you’re available.
  • Consider using delivery lockers, secure drop boxes, or a work address for added protection.
  • Use porch lighting or a doorbell camera to help deter theft.

If you see suspicious activity, report it to the Livermore Police Department.

Report Suspicious Activity

  • Suspicious Activity in progress: Call 911 immediately.
  • After the fact: Contact Livermore Police non-emergency dispatch at (925) 371-4987.

Provide as much detail as possible, including location, suspect description, and direction of travel.

Stay safe, stay aware, and enjoy a peaceful holiday season!
