LPD Tip of the Month: Prevent Car Break-Ins

Help Keep Livermore Safe: Tips to Prevent Car Break-Ins
If your car’s ever been broken into, you know how frustrating (and expensive) it can be. Lately, Livermore has seen an uptick in vehicle burglaries, and our local police are working hard to catch those responsible. However, there are also simple and effective ways to help protect your car and belongings.
Here are some smart tips straight from the Livermore Police Department:
- Always lock your car – even if it’s in your driveway.
- Park in well-lit areas, or consider installing motion-activated lights at home.
- Don’t leave valuables inside your car, especially things like wallets, electronics, credit cards, or luggage.
- When shopping, avoid leaving bags or purchases in plain sight. If you need to drop things off at your car, stay alert.
- Never leave a valet key or spare fob in your vehicle.
- Visible deterrents matter – things like car alarms or steering wheel locks can make a big difference.
- See something off? Report it. If someone is hanging around parking lots or neighborhoods acting suspiciously, report it.
- Do you have a dash cam or home security camera? They can help catch suspects and provide key evidence after the fact.
If you have a home security system, you can also register your cameras with the Livermore Police to help with investigations. It’s easy and takes just a minute—head to police.livermoreca.gov to sign up.
The more we look out for each other, the safer our community will be. Let’s stay alert and work together to help prevent crime before it happens.
Stay informed. Stay safe.
Report suspicious people or activities to law enforcement immediately. Call 911 for all emergencies or (925) 371-4987 to report a non-emergency situation.
